Australia Producer Prices Rise More than Forecast in Q2
The final demand producer price index in Australia advanced 0.4 percent quarter-on-quarter in the three months to June 2019, the same pace as in the previous period but beating market expectations of a 0.2 percent rise. There were increases in prices received for: petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (11.7 percent); other transport equipment manufacturing (5.3 percent); and heavy and civil engineering construction (0.5 percent). Partly offsetting these gains were falls in the prices received for other agriculture (-7.7 percent); electricity supply, gas supply, and water supply, sewerage and drainage services (-1.0 percent); and fishing (-13.1 percent). Through the year to the second quarter, producer prices rose by 2 percent, after a 1.9 percent gain in the prior quarter.

Australia Producer Prices Rise Less than Expected in Q1
The final demand producer price index in Australia advanced 0.4 percent quarter-on-quarter in the three months to March 2019, slowing from a 0.5 percent gain in the previous period and missing market expectations of a 0.6 percent rise. It was the weakest reading since the June quarter last year, when the index rose 0.3 percent. Prices went up for other agriculture (10.3 percent); heavy and civil engineering construction (0.4 percent) and tertiary education (1.7 percent). Partly offsetting the rise, declines were recorded for petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (3.1 percent); accommodation (-2.8 percent) and pharmaceutical and medicinal product manufacturing (1.9 percent). Through the year to the first quarter, producer prices rose 1.9 percent.

Australia Q4 Producer Prices Rise Slightly Less than Expected
The final demand producer price index in Australia increased by 0.5 percent quarter-on-quarter in the three months to December of 2018, slowing markedly from a 0.8 percent rise in the previous period and slightly below market consensus of 0.6 percent. Still, it marked the 11th straight quarter of rise in producer prices, mainly driven by prices received for heavy and civil engineering construction (1 percent); building construction (0.4 percent) and accommodation (3.8 percent). Partly offsetting the rise was falls in prices received for petroleum refining and petroleum fuel manufacturing (-10.6 percent) and bakery product manufacturing (-2.7 percent). Through the year to the fourth quarter, producer prices rose 2 percent.
